The hour had come. My companions and I gathered our equipment and set out for the monster's lair. Upon arrival, we provoked the monster to abandon its lair and fight us outside. With a roar it charged at me. Instinctively, I parried the attack with my ranseur, but the force of his charge knocked me off balance. Seeing I was flat-footed, the beast raised his weapon above his head. Before he could bring it down, my faithful wyvern clawed at its face. Larry charged at him, his scimitars mere flashes during his swift assault. Larry jumped back as a large explosion engulfed the monster and knocked me back. I hadn't noticed Chi casting his spell behind him. The monster seemed unscathed by the attack, but rather enraged. He charged at the mage. Larry attacked at his legs, but he knocked him aside and continued charging. Polearm in hand, I leaped through the air and thrust my weapon into his back. He howled in pain as he swung about violently in an attempt to knock me off. He took a charge at a large stone, so I leaped off as he collided. 'Here's my chance' I thought. I readied my next attack, but despite his size he was too fast. He spun around and hurled a large piece of the rubble, hitting me square in the chest. Chi began casting a sleep spell, and it worked! But the beast quickly came to. He cast another spell with success, but it didn't seem to last long. During his third casting, he caught up to the mage. With one attack he fell to the ground.
