DISCLAIMER: This is not my guide, but it is very straightforward and easy to follow, so I'm 'borrowing' it. ^^ Originally written & formatted by Irianne of AntiquityPlusOne on Bahamut server, so you will see some of the images will show AntiquityPlusOne as the linkshell name.

Registering with Guildwork is necessary to use this site.
Registering with FFXIAH is necessary to contribute to our Linkshell ranking on that site.
Registering with Linkshell Community, Square Enix's official community webpage, is necessary for registering with either Guildwork or FFXIAH.

01: Joining the Linkshell Community

This is a necessary step for joining Guildwork. You must join linkshell community first.

Start by heading over to the FFXI Linkshell Community Website. You may have already set it up for a different linkshell, but you will still need to go through these steps.

Make sure you select "Log in" at this screen and NOT "Auto-login":

The screen will prompt you for your POL information, but don't enter it. Instead click the button which reads "Establish/Join Community":

The page should update and look mostly the same, except that the Establish button has been replaced with a short (and not very helpful) guide. Enter your four letter/four digit PlayOnline ID and password now, then click log in:

Note: This is an official SE webpage. Never give your log in information to third party websites. Ensure the link is https://fanzone.playonline.com/lscom/loginForm.do before continuing.

You will be asked to select the world/character you want, even if you only have one character. If you have more than one character and wish to join Section VIII with all of them, you'll need to repeat this process for each one.

The page will then display all linkshells that your character is a member of that you have not previously synced to the LSCommunity site. Select "Join" under Section VIII.

Once you've (pretended to) read through Square's terms and conditions, check the "Accept" box, and click "Yes".

Scroll down on this page until you see Privacy Settings. Setting these all to public is entirely optional. It is what makes our Linkshell ranking increase on FFXIAH.com. Enable them if you feel like it, don't if you don't; it is not a huge deal to us either way. (But it makes Facti happy! :))

The second thing I circled in this image is Auto-Login. This is very convenient if you're on your own computer, but make sure you don't enable it if you're on a public computer. Then, finally, confirm!

Last step! You'll be shown a page verifying the options you just selected. Glance over it and make sure everything is set how you want it, then click "Join" at the bottom of the page!

You're now a member of Section VIII on the Linkshell Community site! Now it's time to join Guildwork. Don't close this page, as we'll be coming back to it in a minute to get it synced to Guildwork.

02: Joining Guildwork
If you want to be able to use this site, you'll need to join it! This portion of the guide will explain how to sign up. You must have already synced with the Linkshell Community, so make sure you didn't skip the guide in the previous post!

No Guildwork Account:
If you don't already have a Guildwork account, begin the registration process at this webpage. Some of you have already joined, but haven't synced your characters. If this is the case, you can skip to the headline "Existing Guildwork Account".

Select "Odin" as your server. Then enter your character's name exactly as it appears in game. Finally, type "Section VIII" in as your linkshell. Then select "Proceed":

Skip below in the guide to the headline reading "Verifying Your Character".

Existing Guildwork Account:
If you already have a Guildwork account, you'll need to log in at the normal log in screen.

Enter your email and password, then select "Login".
Al's note: I've noticed that it also seems to accept typing in your character's name instead of email address if you would rather use that.

Near the top of the page, you have several tabs. Select the "Characters" tab.

Right below your tabs, a button should appear reading "Add Character to Guildwork". Click this.

Select "Odin" as your server. Then enter your character's name exactly as it appears in game. Finally, type "Section VIII" in as your linkshell. Then select "Proceed".

Verifying Your Character:
Guildwork now provides you with an illustrated guide to completing registration.

Scroll down to bullet point 5 and copy the registration code supplied.

If you don't still have your Linkshell Community page open, reopen it now in another tab. Log in and select your Section VIII profile.

If you left your webpage open when you finished registering for LSCommunity, you should still be on this page. Select "Member Profile Editor" above your character's name and information:

You should see a comment box near the top of the page below your character information. Enter the registration code from Guildwork in here. Once you've entered it, scroll to the bottom of the page and select "Confirm".

As when you registered, you'll need to look over the information and verify it's correct, then click "Confirm". You can now close this tab and return to Guildwork.

At the bottom of the guide Guildwork provided is the "Finish" button. Click that.

If you see this then you're all done! You can now head over to the linkshell website and look around as a full member :)

03: Joining FFXIAH
Though not necessary for using this website, membership to FFXIAH helps increase our linkshell ranking. Do it, because it makes Facti happy. :)

First register for ffxiah. Click the 'Register' link on the top right hand corner of the ffxiah home page (or click the link provided here).

Enter your information and validate your email address.

Once you've validated your email address, log in to ffxiah. On the right hand side of the page, right above your account picture are the words 'Members Menu'. Click that (or the provided link), and you should see a menu that looks like this:

Select 'Verify Character'.

Enter your character name into the box provided, and ensure that the selected server is Odin.

At this point, directions will pop up. Ffxiah will ask you to purchase a single crystal (NOT a stack) from the auction house. The type will vary. To ensure a crystal is available low enough, you may need to place one up for auction yourself.

Log in to FFXI and purchase the appropriate crystal. It's important that the amount you pay for it is exactly the same as ffxiah's request (856 gil in this example).
Note: Since the auction houses have all been combined, it is no longer necessary to perform this action from Jeuno or Whitegate and you can now use whichever AH is most convenient for you.

Now just wait! Within the next half hour, ffxiah should process your transaction and link your character to your account.

Once you're synced, make sure everything is set to display correctly by logging in and going to the characters menu.

Scroll down a little and verify that all hide options are set to 'no'. Save your changes.

Al's note: You don't have to set all options to 'no.' It is up to you what information you want to show on FFXIAH, though the more info your Auction House page shows, the better for the Linkshell's AH Ranking. Again, 100% your choice.

Provided you already registered for the Linkshell Community, you will be automatically added to the linkshell roster and considered in the linkshell standing next time the website syncs.

Bump.
Remember kids, if you're not doing it for science, you're doing it for ALL the wrong reasons.

Just a note: I highly recommend using the Guildwork plugin from FFXIAH.com. You can find the download link under the shouts section. It will automatically update your FFXIAH profile with new gear and will display a countdown of events of the calendar.
